How did majoring in English prepare you for your career?

To be an effective journalist, it’s integral to have a basic understanding of the subject you’re reporting on, regardless of your expertise in that field. While I’m no longer a journalist, the ability to research a topic, gain a working understanding of it quickly, and then apply it effectively translates to any career path.

How has majoring in English enriched your life?

It’s given me a foundation of curiosity. Framed correctly, questioning the status quo can drive real change and that’s benefited me in all aspects of my life.

What advice or insight do you have for VSU alumni and students interested in your career field?

Learn everything you can and don’t be afraid of a nontraditional career path. Also, have a clearly defined work-life balance. People rarely answer “work” when asked what the most important thing in life is.
